Now, you can buy a slingshot with an automatic transmission, automated manual transmission, or a 5-speed manual transmission. As a result, the Slingshot provides a great option, even for those unfamiliar with driving a stick shift. At just over 1,700 pounds, the Slingshot weighs half as much as some small cars, yet it boasts significantly more power with 203 hp and 144 lb-ft of torque. Electronic stability control comes standard.
The Slingshot is available in multiple exterior colors, but the leather-wrapped steering wheel comes standard, as does the sleek, black interior. You can also add a “Slingshade” consisting of polycarbonate windows and a sun cover that can be attached to the frame. The steering wheel is adjustable, and in general, the interior design and dashboard resemble that of a sports car. While it may not be built for driving to work every day, a new Polaris Slingshot costs about the same as a Mazda MX-5 Miata, one of the most popular convertible sports cars on the market. The Slingshot is a lot more fun to drive.
The Slingshot R offers maximum horsepower, and it sits slightly lower to the ground. The Slingshot SL model offers a lower-cost option; while it still has more horsepower than many small cars, both the rear tire and front wheels sit slightly higher off the ground. The base SL provides a great option for those looking for a vehicle that’s still way more fun to drive than a regular sports car.
